OptoMize - NHS Health Checks
In
the UK the NHS has launched an initiative to provide NHS Health Checks
(previously referred to as Vascular Risk Assessment and Management Service)
throughout the UK for all people between the ages of 40 and 74 who do not
already have an existing diagnosed vascular disease. These people will be identified and invited for an appointment where a variety of checks will be carried out to assess the risk of:
• Heart disease
• Stroke
• Diabetes
• Kidney disease
Based on certain factors, the patient will either be moved to a certain risk register or given lifestyle advice and placed on a 1 or 5 year recall.
This is a national programme which must be fully implemented by 2012/2013 and the service will be delivered locally by PCTs.
