Diabetic Retinal Screening Programmes benefit from New Electronic Annual Reporting Service

Digital Healthcare, the leading supplier of software to UK Diabetic Retinal Screening Services (DRSS) has released a new software module to help Screening Programmes with their National Reporting Requirements.

The Electronic Annual Reporting Service Module (EARS Connector) provides an automated method to populate the On Line annual reporting service required by the English National Screening Programme for Diabetic Retinopathy (ENSPDR).

In 2008 the EARS system was launched to enable Local Screening Programmes to submit their Annual Reports to the ENSPDR using a web-based interface for manual input of data. The system stores the submitted data and allowes for reports to be created by the ENSPDR using the data submitted.

Digital Healthcare’s EARS Connector provides an electronic link between EARS and OptoMize V2 data warehouse system via data transfer across an N3 network connection. This will allow the rapid production and upload of Annual Reporting Data. It will also allow for monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc yearly reporting.

The system which includes full error checking to ensure data integrity and completion of data transfer provides users with a reduction in administration time in submitting reports and a reduction in the possibility of errors in the data that is submitted.

Nicola Winter, Acting Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Manager at Wakefield District Community Healthcare Services, one of the initial users of the module said “Using the DH to EARS connector was so easy and reduced vast amounts of time and effort by automatically populating the EARS template. I found this particularly useful when importing charts such as grader workload as this is done automatically too – fantastic!”

Kevin McDonnell, Managing Director at Digital Healthcare commented “The need for our customers to provide the ENSPDR with accurate and timely information is growing. We are delighted to introduce this new module to help our customers by automating the currently time consuming manual process.”
